While yours says "Photos Library," the only reason mine was saying "Photos.photoslibrary" is that I had previously de-selected the "hide extension" option in the Info panel for that. Sberman: I'm glad (sort of) to hear that your Photos preferences also shows the "System Photo Library" option greyed out, but I'm not sure that gets us very far. One thing that I just tried on top of that is to Option-launch Photos, create a new library on the desktop, select that as the System Photo Library, then quit it and do the process over again selecting the real library, just in case that setting just needed to be "jostled." But no change. The option for "System Photo Library" is still greyed-out. □ In any case, I promise you I did exactly what you and the support doc said the first time - Option-launched Photos, re-selected my existing photos library, then went to the Preferences screen. Anybody have any ideas that I haven't tried?ĭoh! Sorry, Chris, I erroneously thanked sberman for that particular response. Allowed iTunes to delete all photos from my phone (that is, other than ones that the phone took) Chose another source of photos in iTunes, re-launched, then switched back to Pictures Option-launched Photos to switch to a different source folder, then back again, then re-launched iTunes Deleted the 'iPod Photo Cache' folders, one in Pictures and one inside of Photos Checked the Info panel for my Photos collection (that is, 'Photos.photoslibrary'), including permissions (all users can both see and edit) Updated iTunes, then quit/open both that and Photos All that appears is other folders that happen to be inside of my Pictures folder (Lightroom, Photo Booth, etc.). This is especially weird because I know that I had previously set various folders to import from Photos when I upgraded to a larger capacity iPhone.Īfter turning the Sync option on, I then discovered that while "Pictures" was already selected as the "Copy photos from:" option, it would not show me any of the actual Photos albums/folders when I selected the "Selected folders" option. I just discovered that my iPhone wasn't reflecting changes to one of my Photos albums, then discovered that iTunes wasn't set to Sync photos at all, which was weird because there were lots of Photos albums already on the phone. Then iTunes should copy everything from the external drive to the standard folder structures on your PC (ignore what the image shows for iTunes Media folder location - for a standard installation under Win 8.1 this should be C:\Users\ user_name \Music\iTunes\iTunes Media).I've scoured the web for this issue and can't find a solution that solves the problem. , and then selecting the folder on your HDD that contains all your media? If you have these two options selected in Edit > Preferences > Advanced: One point you didn't cover in your post - in iTunes 12, did you try enabling the menu bar with Ctrl-B, choosing File > Add Folder to Library. If your library is in a different structure please report back what you are seeing - there are some alternative approaches which should solve your issue. This folder should then contain your iTunes l file (the iTunes database), the Album Artwork folder and the iTunes Media folder, where the last of these contains subfolders for Music, Podcasts, TV shows, etc. if you want your library to be on the internal drive, with iTunes not running copy everything on your external HDD to C:\Users\ user_name \Music\iTunes.and browse to the iTunes l file on the external HDD to use the external drive as your library storage, hold down SHIFT while you start iTunes. When you copied your library from My Music to the external hard drive did you copy the iTunes database ( iTunes l) as well as the media files? If so, you have two options: I tried taking the checkbox out of Show iTunes in the cloud purchases. I tried checking Copy files to iTunes media folder. No difference. So I tried the delete iTunes database, restarted iTunes and tried the above again. I did a search of these forums and tried the following: Doesn't matter which of the missing folders I select, none of them will get added. So I tried again, but this time selected Music\U2 folder. So I held down Alt and used "Add folder to library" and selected the "My Music" folder. For example I have 10 U2 albums in "My Music" but it only shows the free one from last year and says I have to download all the songs again? It found a bunch of songs I had purchasds but said they all had to be downloaded again (?). I then installed iTunes 12 on the fresh Win 8.1, then used "Scan for Media". a few days go by while I finish the upgrade to Win8. I then copied the "My Music" folder to a portable hard disk. I had iTunes configured to use the "My Music" folder as the default library location on Win Vista. I've recently upgraded my PC from Win Vista to Win 8.1.
